Durango Summer Trip - 2006

In July of 2006 we took a car trip to Durango. Since this was our 40th anniversary we basically retraced the same car trip we took on our honeymoon 40 years ago, we thought it would be neat. It was.

  • Our first site seeing spot on our trip, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.
  • One of the great observation platforms at the edge.
  • The north wall of the Black Canyon with river at the bottom.
  • River at the bottom.
  • Down at the river bottom of the canyon. We were able to drive the car down a very steep road to a picnic area at river side.
  • Now in Durango, Diane at the Durango/Silverton train station.
  • A Durango/Silverton train departs from town.
  • Steam narrow gauge engine in Silverton.
  • As it was faster, we took a bus up to Silverton (but rode the train back to Durango). This is local transportation in Silverton.
  • Columbine flowers of every color
  • Diane with a bed full of columbine.
  • And hanging flowers are everywhere.
  • One of the daily trains departs from Silverton.
  • Just way cool.
  • No we didn't miss the train. This was an earlier train going back to Durango.
  • Boarding our coach.
  • The train follows the Animas River between Silverton and Durango.
  • Cool.
  • Cool. (or did I just say that?)
  • During the trip, they had to stop for water.
